Peer Review Process

Boitatá follows a rigorous peer review process designed to ensure the academic quality, originality, relevance, and integrity of all scholarly manuscripts considered for publication. All submissions are initially evaluated by the editorial team to determine whether they fall within the journal's scope, meet basic scholarly and technical requirements, and demonstrate sufficient academic merit. Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's scope or minimum standards may be declined at the editorial screening stage without external review.

Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment are normally sent to qualified independent reviewers with appropriate expertise in the subject area. The journal generally follows a double-anonymous peer review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are kept confidential during the review process wherever practicable. Reviewers are selected based on their academic expertise, subject knowledge, research experience, and absence of relevant conflicts of interest.

Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts objectively, constructively, and confidentially. Their assessment may consider the originality and significance of the research, clarity of the research objectives, adequacy of the theoretical or conceptual framework, appropriateness of methodology, quality of analysis and interpretation, relevance of the discussion, accuracy of citations and references, organization and presentation, and overall contribution to the field. Reviewers should provide clear and substantive comments that can assist authors in improving their manuscripts.

Reviewers must treat submitted manuscripts and all associated materials as confidential documents. They should not disclose, reproduce, distribute, or use unpublished information obtained through the review process for personal or professional purposes. Reviewers should also declare any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest and decline the assignment when impartial evaluation cannot reasonably be maintained.

Following peer review, the editorial team makes the final decision regarding the manuscript. Possible decisions may include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. A manuscript requiring revision may be returned to the original reviewers or evaluated by the editor, depending on the nature and extent of the requested changes. Authors are expected to respond carefully to reviewer and editorial comments and submit a revised version within the period specified by the editorial office.

The editorial decision is based on the overall scholarly assessment of the manuscript and is not determined solely by the recommendation of an individual reviewer. The editors may seek additional reviews where reviewer recommendations substantially differ or where further specialist assessment is considered necessary. The journal reserves the right to reject a manuscript when its academic quality, originality, ethical standards, or suitability for publication does not meet the journal's requirements.

All participants in the peer review process are expected to maintain high standards of academic and professional integrity. The journal seeks to ensure that peer review is fair, impartial, confidential, and consistent, while supporting authors in developing high-quality scholarly contributions.
